How did you get into wedding planning?
It all happened accidentally! I never planned on opening an event design, planning and management business. In fact, as a young girl, I dreamed of being a Fashion Designer, which drove me towards studying Fashion Design in Italy and becoming the first female Fashion Designer in Jordan. I then carried the enriching experience I gained in Europe back home, and found a way to implement it in everything I do naturally. From lavish lunches to dinner parties, I brought my creative visions to life. The joy I felt as guests shared their appreciation for the details, table settings and overall event décor made me realize that I was clearly doing something right.

One day, a friend of mine asked me if I was interested in designing and planning her engagement party. I didn’t hesitate, I accepted the challenge, despite it being the first time I professionally executed an event for someone else. This event was the turning point for me – there’s nothing that felt more rewarding than seeing the couple and their guests happy, which gave me a glimpse of the bigger picture and the life-changing experiences that come with becoming an event planner & designer. That’s when I knew I wanted to do this for the rest of my life, and ever since, I never looked back.

What ingredients make for a perfect event?
A perfect event, in my opinion, takes into consideration the following: a great floor plan layout & circulation, vibrant & creative floral arrangements, interactive entertainment, customization and branding elements and exquisite catering.

What’s your favourite part of the job?
What I love the most is the process, from conceptualization to realization. Seeing the outcome of my work, from vision to reality is my favourite part of the job. The feeling I get when I watch a space transform is indescribable.

Are there any event or wedding trends you’re excited about at the moment?
Year after year, new trends immerge but some stand out more than others. The use of neon light installations is one of my favourite trends this year.  I’m also a big fan of “abstract” floral arrangements, the use of bold, eccentric colours and greenery.

What is the motto you live by professionally?
Dream Big, Work Hard, And Make It Happen!

Who has influenced you the most in your career as a wedding and event planner?
Alexandre de Betak

What are the key decisions for a couple when planning a wedding?
The first and foremost decision a couple should take while planning their wedding is “the budget”. Setting a clear budget is a crucial factor when it comes to an understanding the production and creative leeway. Another critical decision is dividing decision making among the couple and their families. It is really a big problem when there are too many cooks in the kitchen.

As for creative decisions, agreeing on the overall theme and related elements like colour palettes, layouts, décor, furniture, music genres & related entertainment etc…Agreeing on the general direction is essential, to ensure both the bride & groom have room to share their visual preferences. Finding a balance would be the perfect scenario.

What are the main considerations for a destination wedding abroad?
The main consideration to take for a destination wedding abroad is “flight route & duration”. Sometimes, a couple might decide they want to host their wedding in a particular country and then realize the hassle their guests will have to go through to get there, due to in-direct flights & long distances. For Jordanians, for example, the non-existence of direct flights is always an issue while deciding on destination weddings.

Other considerations to take at the early stages of decision making are weather, accommodation, local activities for guests and more importantly, on a production level: the existence of local suppliers and their level of diligence.

Which social media platform do you prefer for event marketing and why?
Instagram without a doubt! Its live features allow us to showcase the details of our work, behind the scenes, and the overall process. Instagram also provides us with a lot of inspiration and keeps us up to date with new trends and our competition.

What is the greatest lesson you have learned in your career?
To always assert your vision. Sometimes, clients have a theme in mind, yet they don’t correctly express it as they envision it to their event planner. In this case, it’s my job as an Event Planner & Designer to understand the clients’ needs and propose a concept that seamlessly mixes between their ideas & mine.

What is your current favourite colour combination?
I love combining bold colours such as emerald green, blue and purple, and sunset colours such as orange, red and yellow.

Where do you get the inspiration from?
My inspiration comes from everything around me: nature, travelling, home décor fairs, interior design, fashion shows, concerts and festivals, music videos, Met Galas, and last but not least social media platforms such as Instagram and Pinterest.  To me, everything visually beautiful inspires me to create events. I believe every event should have its very own persona.

If you weren’t a wedding planner, you would be?
I would have continued being a Fashion Designer

What’s the most spectacular event you have planned?
That is a very difficult question to answer. Every event tells a story…

What do you believe is the most important characteristic of an event planner?
It goes without saying that a great event planner & designer is characterized by more than one positive trait – for example, an eye for design & beauty, a perfectionist approach to detail orientation and most importantly passion and a longing to continuously evolve and grow. However, I do believe if I am to pick the most critical characteristic of an event planner, I will go for “patience” and the ability to diplomatically handle situations, as these are vital factors that play a significant role in problem solving and execution.

Which country do you want to plan / to host a destination wedding?
I would love to host a destination wedding in In the “Die Woud” venue, Cape Town, South Africa. This venue is situated in the middle of the forest and is made of glass. I genuinely admire the symmetry of the trunks in the aforementioned forest and as such, being able to organize and plan an event in the venue within such forest greatly inspire me.

However, before going elsewhere, I would love to host a wedding in the “rose-red” city of Petra, Jordan. One of the seven wonders of the world, Petra is exceptionally surreal in every way.
